D.L. Bliss State Park in Lake Tahoe
Duane L. Bliss was a lumber baron who made his fortune in banking, logging, and railroads during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. In 1929, the Bliss family donated 744 acres of their property to the California State park system. Today, you can soak up the beauty of the park, with its attractive picnic spots, pleasant lakeside areas, and lovely sandy beaches tucked away in densely wooded groves and accessed by a two-mile hike. What an idyllic place to spend the day with your family! The park's Lester Beach and Calawee Cove are among the loveliest beaches in Tahoe. You will enjoy the crystal-clear waters; basking under the warm summer rays, and relish the perfect conditions for fishing, kayaking, canoeing, and paddleboarding. D.L. Bliss State Park is also amazing for hiking, especially the Rubicon Trail with its sensational views of Lake Tahoe. This 4.5-mile trail leads to Emerald Bay State Park. There is also a two-mile extension trail past the Vikingsholm Castle. Other hikes include the Lighthouse Trail, leading to a historic lighthouse, and the Balancing Rock Nature Trail, featuring a 130-ton granite "Balancing Rock," resting on a narrow stone base.
When staying in Lake Tahoe, you will want to stay in the lap of luxury and one of the most elite Lake Tahoe homes is undoubtedly Villa Harrah. This grand waterfront home is on a heavenly stretch of coast with water so clear it sparkles like diamonds. The home has breathtaking views of the mountains across the lake and is the ideal place for an outdoor fire. Roasted marshmallows anyone? The home, which can accommodate up to 10 guests, features a dock for your boat, an outdoor pool, spa lounge, indoor hot tub, and sauna, just to name a few of the incredible amenities.
The Grammy Museum, Los Angeles
You would be hard-pressed to find someone who doesn’t like music, whatever the genre. A visit to the Grammy Museum with your dad would be an entertaining, memorable experience and you might learn something about each other in the process. You will get to learn about the history of different genres of music – jazz, pop, Motown, and more, learn about famous Grammy moments the year you were born, see changes in fashion with displays of extravagant outfits worn by famous musicians, watch clips of performances and Grammy moments in the theater, and guests’ favorite – view an exhibit where you can hear how the sound of music has changed with different audio formats, from records, 8-tracks, cassette tapes, Boom boxes, CDs, to digital/immersive. Snap a few pics of the exhibits of items that once belonged to your favorite legends: BB King, Jimi Hendrix, Jerry Garcia and others. There are Taylor Swift, TuPac, Michael Jackson, Ella Fitzgerald, Leonard Bernstein exhibits and many others. The museum even has some movie memorabilia on hand. This really is a must-do for any lover of music.
A remarkable place to stay in Los Angeles is one of the most fabulously contemporary penthouses in the city – Penthouse Zeus. This ultra-luxe home is everything contemporary and chic about downtown LA. Gorgeous limestone and marble accents complement exceptional depths of walnut, ash, and oak. Sleek glass and shiny metal accents imbue the interiors with a delectable cosmopolitan glamor. A 165-foot pool and expansive hot tub grace an exquisite terrace, soaring above the city's most iconic skyscrapers. An additional catering kitchen on the rooftop terrace pushes the limits of highlife entertaining.
Golfing in Palm Springs
Desert Willow Golf Resort is one of the loveliest in Palm Springs and your dad would definitely enjoy its challenges. This incredible resort offers two courses to please both novice and experienced golfers. One of the most challenging courses in the desert – the Firecliff course, which opened in 1997 – pits you against more than 7,000 yards of water features and sand beds. Most of the Mountain View course – which opened in 1998 – is player-friendly and includes more water features. There is a mile-long approach to the world-renowned resort. Once you’re in the clubhouse you will feel how consideration was given to guests in its creation. The design, function and flow are commendable and instantly make you feel welcome. The courses were designed by Michael Hurdzan and Dana Fry. Hurdzan is a well-known architect with many awards to his name, including the Donald A. Rossi Award by the Golf Course Builders Association of America. Fry, an avid golfer himself playing for the University of Arizona, joined Hurdzan in 1988, becoming a partner in the firm.
If you plan on spending time in Palm Springs playing golf with your dad, making Cavallo Ranch your home base is an added gift for your dad. The waterfront estate in the Coachella Valley is the epitome of highlife living. With accommodations for up to 26 guests, Cavallo Ranch includes an outdoor infinity pool, outdoor hot tub, tennis court, casino room and an exemplary outdoor dining area complete with a BBQ and fire pit. As with all LVH luxury homes, Cavallo Ranch comes with full services and 24/7 support.
Superblue Miami is changing the way people see and experience art. The immersive, technology-driven museum in Miami’s industrial Allapattah neighborhood is far more than a series of installations for you to stroll through and admire. It’s a place where visitors can affect the art around them, and be as much a part of the show as the works filling the walls. Superblue has created a walk-through space where you can touch the walls and make vines climb skyward, open a room of clouds where you can immerse yourself in the mist and change its shape. Superblue is art-as-experience rather than a showcase for art, making it more accessible and relatable. In a nutshell, Superblue is a rotating collection of interactive art installations. Currently, it houses an exhibit called Every Wall is a Door, an abstract look at how people affect the environment. Works are from various artists, including the art collaborative teamLab, and noted light sculptor, James Terrell. Superblue is a journey, not a destination. So you really only have one place to start, and that’s at the beginning.
If you should choose to spend some time in Miami, one of the most impressive Miami luxury homes in which to stay is Villa Roxanne with eight bedrooms which can comfortably accommodate up to 16 guests. This magnificent brand new modern waterfront masterpiece features exciting outdoor spaces including a rooftop deck and a huge, entertaining and pool area all situated in a park-like setting. It also has a dock for your boat.
