London’s best rooftop bars
London is known for having some of the best pubs in the world, and it also has some of the most exclusive rooftop bars and lounges. If you’re in the UK preparing for the 2022 London Marathon taking place on Sunday, October 2, you might need to wind down after your workout and the place to do it is at a gorgeous rooftop bar.
Here are three we think you might enjoy:
Jin Bo Law Skybar
The incredibly posh cocktail lounge opened its doors in the early part of 2018 and has since become one of the “it” places to be in London town. On the 14th floor of the Dorsett City Hotel, the skyline view is absolutely spectacular. In good weather you have the choice between sitting on the outdoor terrace or the very chic indoor area decked out in lots of bronze, along with a marble floor and bar. Many famous London landmarks like the Tower Bridge, the Shard and the Gherkin are so close, you can almost touch them. The atmosphere is trendy and vibrant. Breathtaking views aside, Jin Bo Law’s carefully curated, unique and well-prepared cocktails are crowd favorites. Try the Discaroni made with discarded vermouth, discarded rum from banana peel and Campari or the City Diet made from Botanist gin and Yuzushu citrus liqueur. The dress code is smart, casual.
Sushisamba Rooftop Bar and Restaurant
Let’s hope you don’t have a fear of heights since one of the city’s loveliest bars is also home to the highest outdoor dining terraces in Europe, offering amazing 360-degree views over London. You will take the outside glass elevator up to magical views, great service, delicious food and a wide selection of sake. Not only does this venue serve meticulously mixed cocktails, but also some of the most delectable fare this side of the Thames. This venue is so high up in the clouds that it often closes if there are high winds. You’ll feel welcome in Sushisamba’s stylish, indoor dining room with floor-to-ceiling glass windows and comfortable lounge sofas. We recommend trying the small plates to share: Shrimp tempura with snap pea julienne, spicy mayo and black truffle vinaigrette or the crispy taquitos with lobster, avocado, aji Amarillo, jalapeno, lime, maize and morado. If you’re really hungry, go for the Kobe beef Ishiyaki served on a hot stone with dipping sauces and pickled plums.
After a night on the town, returning to a most fashionable penthouse such as Penthouse Alastair would be most welcoming. This trophy property is in London’s fashionable Mayfair neighborhood dotted with high-end boutiques, galleries and a short stroll to world-famous Harrods and Selfridges department stores. This penthouse provides an incredible city view and all the amenities needed for an exemplary stay.
Madison Rooftop Bar and Restaurant
This spacious rooftop terrace, bar and restaurant is on top of the One New Exchange building with stellar views of the iconic St. Paul’s Cathedral. The top floor area is huge with inside restaurant seating and several outdoor terraces. If you’re there for dinner, a must-try is the teriyaki salmon fillet with bok choy, miso hollandaise, and pickled shimeji mushrooms. Madison has some terrific mixologists on hand and a number of signature cocktails. You mustn’t leave without trying a couple! Go for the Schuss Bum – Tanqueray gin, Brookies macadamia liqueur, vanilla syrup, Frangelico liqueur, lemon juice and foam of caramel and apple. For a real wallop, order a Deluxe Pornstar Martini which includes white chocolate angel wings and rosé champagne, 24k edible gold, Sauvelle vodka, passion fruit, egg white, vanilla and apple.
