Fashion Essentials for the Ski Scene

Whether you’re off to Aspen, Courchevel, Verbier, Vail or any other hot spot in the world for a luxury ski getaway, you will want to hit the slopes wearing the most fashionable winter ski essentials. Of course you’ll want to stay warm, but that doesn’t mean ski wear has to be dull. Practical gear can have bursts of color for making a great impression as you sail down that fresh powder.

Perhaps you’re thinking about a trip to Paris or New York to get an up close peek at the latest winter wear. Here are a few functional, yet practical pieces every fashionable wardrobe should include for a foray onto the slopes.

Insulated Ski Jacket

Outer layers should be waterproof and one of the main pieces is a ski jacket that does the trick. It should keep you warm and dry and wick away perspiration. It must have a helmet-compatible hood for those days where the wind is whipping on the mountain. This jacket from Fusalp has two hand pockets, one citypass pocket and a snow skirt.

Ski Pants

Some skiers prefer insulated pants, while others just double up with tights underneath. Since most luxe ski resorts are in areas with extreme temperatures, we’ve opted to highlight an insulated pair. Ski pants should give you warmth without added bulk to impede movement. Today, ski pants come in a myriad of colors. We particularly love this baby blue pair by Fendi!

Ski Suit

Instead of ski pants, you might choose a ski suit. It should be breathable, have some give to allow for ease of movement, have great air circulation, yet be able to keep you toasty warm. Functionality is important, so ankle zips and front zip fastening are a must.

Gloves

Cold fingers can make a great day on the slopes into a miserable one, so it’s essential to have quality gloves that fit properly. There are a number of unisex gloves and mittens suitable for all sizes and types of skiing. They can be made from synthetics or from full undercuff leather. You can find them in a number of colors – a pair to match each of your ski outfits. We give a thumbs up to the unisex Hestra sport leather gloves made from soft, supple cowhide aniline, the highest quality leather on the market. They have foam insulation and a neoprene cuff to keep out snow for maximum warmth.

Eyewear

Skiing can really be hard on your eyes since the sun reflecting off the snow can be blinding. It’s a must to have eyewear that protects those gorgeous peepers. Many skiers opt for a fine pair of sunglasses in lieu of goggles. They do a terrific job of mitigating risk factors such as UV rays and they can be prescription-customized. Shades combine function and style and can crossover to other outdoor activities all year.
