Thomas Keller, the only American-born chef to have two three-starred Michelin restaurants, purchased the French Laundry in 1994. The former residence and French steam laundry was converted into a restaurant by the town mayor in 1978.
Receiving numerous accolades, including three Michelin stars for their exceptional cuisine, the French Laundry is definitely worth a special journey! The restaurant has also received the highly prized James Beard Foundation Outstanding Restaurant Award and Chef Thomas Keller was given the Outstanding Restaurateur award.

Chef Keller pairs classic French techniques with the freshest local ingredients, creating classic French cuisine combined with impeccable guest service. Most vegetables served at the French Laundry are seasoned with herbs and edible flowers from a nearby garden. The French Laundry offers two set menus, the Chef's Tasting (meat and seafood) and the Tasting of Vegetables. These come with nine courses, not including the opening "appetizers, " aka Amuse Bouche. With its Napa location, the wine shares the same spotlight as the food. Getting a reservation at the French Laundry is a remarkable feat since it is one of the best restaurants in the US — and possibly the world.
Chef Keller has also opened several other restaurants around the country, including Bouchon, Bouchon Bakery and Ad Hoc in Yountville, New York City’s Per Se, and outposts of Bouchon and Bouchon Bakery in New York City, Beverly Hills and Las Vegas.
